Fasteners are estimated at roughly 5.5 screws per square foot, covering two screws at every board-joist intersection. All of this is multiplied by your material type and price modifier, then combined with your labor time to build a full cost estimate.

This calculator applies the adjustable waste buffer on top of your raw calculated board count. Deck boards need to be cut to fit at the ends of each row, and running short on boards from the same batch can mean a visible color mismatch on a highly visible surface — this buffer accounts for end-cuts and trim waste up front.
